Statement on VIA’s Advanced Rapid Transit (ART)

While San Antonians for Rail Transit (SART) may be a rail-centric organization, we are at our core guided by sustainable, pro-transit, and pro-urbanist philosophies.

The proposed Advanced Rapid Transit route is novel for the San Antonio metro area, and provides an opportunity for VIA to demonstrate how efficient and inclusive transportation can not only provide a safer alternative to personal vehicles, but also bring about exciting economic possibilities.

SART believes that once a dedicated rapid transit corridor is proven to be viable and successful, the ART project will be a crucial stepping-stone to San Antonio seeing the return of fixed-rail transit. SART approves of VIA’s efforts to establish an Advanced Rapid Transit line, and SART will be looking to support VIA in this endeavor.
